Questions to Ask Others Selling Drum Wrap
© Jammin Sam. All rights reserved.
Before you buy from anyone else, here are some important questions to ask:
-
How many people have you paid or sponsored (endorsers) to get good
comments about your company and it's products?
Our answer:
None. All of the testimonials you find here are voluntarily offered, and we
have never paid for, nor given a discount to anyone for their comments or
pictures of their drums.
-
Is the drum wrap you sell, under warranty?
Our answer:
Yes, we offer a one year warranty for all drum wrap purchased from us with
our hi-bond tape products. See " warranty
and guarantee" for more information.
-
Is the drum wrap you sell, guaranteed?
Our answer:
Yes, we guarantee that you will be pleased with our products when you
receive them or you can return them (up to 40 days from the date of
purchase.) See " warranty
and guarantee" for more information.
-
What help do you offer when problems arise?
Our answer:
Remember, almost any task that involves an application process can result in a
problem, this includes drum wrap – even with the highest quality
available – which we sell. At Jammin Sam we realize that good customer
service and real help is part of our business. Even though we have
simplified the application (by our "exact cut" fit [no trimming] and our
hi-bond tape [no gluing]), still a problem can arise.
Note: It is a good idea to read our article " gluing
vs. taping". By departing from the contact cement method, and using our
hi-bond tape, we have cut application problems by at least 75% – and that
is just one of the many benefits for using our hi-bond tape instead of gluing.
As mentioned above, we feel that part of the sale includes helping people through the
application process – even if the customer makes a mistake (and we did
this even when we suggested gluing in the past – which we did for
over 17 years).
Over the many years we have been in business, we have replaced many pieces of
wrap – and were happy to do so. When someone calls with a problem,
we first determine what level of help they need. Our first level of help is to
aid the customer over the phone (no need to wait for an email answer) in fixing the
problem (when possible). Over half of the time, problems are fixed by some
suggestions we give over the phone (someone on our staff is available six days a week
for this purpose).
If the customer has followed our step-by-step written instructions (and purchased our
hi-bond tape), and the problem cannot be resolved over the phone, we replace the
material (less the cost of our hi-bond tape and the shipping/handling – see
warranty information.) We understand problems can
arise (with about anything), and believe helping people is a vital part of our business,
even if it means a loss on our part.
-
Does your drum wrap shrink?
Our answer:
No. We no longer sell that type of drum wrap. We were one of the first distributors
to break away from the drum material with the "5% shrinking factor".
This type of material was the standard for many years for pearl finishes.
Years ago, it came to our attention that many people had less that pleasing results with that
form of product. So, years ago, we began seeking a non-shrinking type of
plastic. Today's general break-away (even by our competitors) is in part,
due to our actions in the past, to choose a more stable composite plastic.
-
How long have you been in this business?
Our answer:
Sam Barnard (the owner) has been selling drum products since 1982.
-
Are your solid and pearl finishes 30 mil thick?
Our answer:
Yes. We have our solids and pearl drum wraps manufactured to 30 mil
(30/1000 of an inch) because they look better on the drum (no rippling effect)
and last much longer than thinner wraps sold by others. You
will find other companies selling wraps that are between 10 and
26 mil in thickness. It may not seem like much of a difference, but it
is enough of a difference that our customers notice and believe it is
well worth getting. (Note: Our new Vintaqge Sky Blue Pearl
is only 18 mil. We purchased it that way from DW and because of this
thickness our customers get a special discount.) Our White Pearl
Special wrap is an exception to this. It is less than 30 mil thick.
-
Is an eyelet installer tool available or included with the wrap?
Our answer:
Yes. When you purchase drum wrap from us, our
eyelet installer tool is available for $3.99.
If your drum wrap order exceeds $100.00, the tool is included
free of charge.
-
Do you have any staff?
Our answer:
Yes. We have several caring, service – oriented
staff members.
-
Do you have anyone available to respond to problems and questions?
Our answer:
Yes, except for Sundays, we're here for you six days a week (half day on
Saturday).
-
How long does it typically take you to pack and ship each purchase?
Our answer:
Our typical turn-around from "order payment" to "packed-and-out-the-door"
is next day. Many orders though, go out same day.
-
Do you keep a fair amount of stock of all the colors and hardware you sell?
Our answer:
Yes. We make every effort to stock every wrap we list, and for the most part
in large quantities. (And we also do this for nearly all of our hardware
parts.) If we do not have it in stock we will let you know as soon as
possible. Our motto: "If it's not sitting here, we can't sell
it." Our accountant is not happy, but you will be when you need wrap
or hardware now, or in the future.
-
How many people have used your products?
Our answer:
Thousands.
-
Do you have a working knowledge of plastic compounds and associated manufacturing processes?
Our answer:
Yes. We have worked with the manufacturers to understand and improve upon our wraps
that are made of polypropylene, polycarbonate, acrylonitrile butadiene styrene
(ABS), Mylar, styrene, poly chloride vinyl (PVC), and other compounds.
Together, we
and the manufacturers are continually seeking ways to improve
our products to give you even more favorable results.
-
How long have you dealt with the manufactures of your drum wrap?
Our answer:
Over 20 years we have built long-standing and close relationships with manufactures that supply our drum wrap. This helps us obtain and develop products
that are of a higher quality than many wraps you see on the market today. Through those
relationships, we have a good understanding of the plastic industry; which
combined with many years of customer experiences, we have an edge that is of great
benefit to you. We are not here just to make a "buck", but to help
you be successful and happy with our products, even for years to come.
-
Do your hi-gloss solid color drum wraps have any special properties?
Our answer:
Yes. Our hi-gloss solid colors are a multi-layered product made in the United
States. They are made to our specifications to produce a drum wrap that has a
professional grade thickness of 30 mil.
Also, on top of the material is a peal-off-protective-film for added protection
while you're applying the wrap to the drum shell. The bottom line for our solid
color wraps is that we deliver a high grade vinyl that fights color fading, has
a deeper look, richer color, has increased durability, lasts longer and has a
ripple free appearance.
-
Do you "double-box" delicate items (for added protection)?
Our answer:
Yes. We double-box some items for extra protection while in transit.
Of the many orders we send out, it is very rare that we ever have a
damaged box.
-
What steps do you take to protect customer credit/debit card information?
Our answer:
First, we never send full credit/debit card numbers with any order or through
the mail.
Second, we do not store any 16 digit credit/debit card numbers in any database or
software on our computers. In this way, there is no threat of
"hackers" retrieving your credit card number from our systems.
It's simply not there to have.
-
Do you provide instructions for drum wrap installation?
Our answer:
Yes. When you order wrap from us (with our hi-bond tape), you will receive
detailed, written, step-by-step instructions. See our on-line written instructions at
Instructions. Also go to our free
on line video to see the owner of the company recovering a drum.
-
Are the instructions thorough?
Our answer:
Yes. Our instructions are the most thorough we have ever seen. And if you do
not understand any part, you can call us for clarification or help.
-
For our competitors that recommend glue:
- Ask them to explain why they don't list (anywhere) that contact cement
destroys shells made in the orient (nearly all shells made in Asia have a
paper thin outer ply) when glued wrap is removed from them?
- Ask them why they recommend gluing when there is no visual difference or
sound difference?
- Ask them why glue is needed when the hardware holds the material firmly in
place?
- Ask them if gluing is the best way to protect and keep the value of your
shells? or, Is it just a way to adhere their material to your
drums?
Our answer:
Many sellers of drum wrap don't care about your drum shells, or how your
shells will fair later on "down the road" from their glue. If
wrap needs to be replaced later, or a color change is desired (many sets on a
daily basis are re-wrapped), it is best not to glue them. There
is no added benefit for the use of glue, just negative consequences.
Damage can result even on drums made in the United States when individuals
use contact cement or other glues when wrap is removed in the future –
pieces of wood can come up, especially when our removal procedures are not
followed.
-
Am I going to have to cut the wrap myself?
Our answer:
No. We custom cut each order according to specifications that we work out with you
over the phone; except for holes to accomodate your hardware, there should be no need
for you to cut anything, if you use our hi-bond tape.
-
Am I going to have to put the adhesive on myself?
Our answer:
Not if you choose our hi-bond tape. For a small charge, we provide the tape,
and place it on our material for you.
-
Does the chrome drum wrap that you sell look just like a bathroom mirror?
Our answer:
Yes. In a cooperative effort, we have worked with our supplier to use a 100%
Mylar reflective film (material used for a very high grade reflection),
combined with a clear coat on top of the Mylar (added protection against scratching), plus a
protective, peal-off-film on the top. Our mirror chrome also comes with an ABS
backing (for durability) that makes it the best quality mirror chrome drum wrap found
anywhere.
-
Does your hi-gloss black drum wrap have any special properties?
Our answer:
Yes. We have our hi-gloss black manufactured with the highest level of
quality. Our hi-gloss black is made with an ABS base (like automotive brakes)
that make it more resilient to heat. This high grade material is very consistent and
clean, which creates a sharp clear reflection. We are the first to use the ABS
compound in drum wrap. The difference is astounding.
-
Do you have a multi-stage inspection process before shipping?
Our answer:
Yes. We use a three stage, factory line approach to the production of your
order. As each step is completed, that worker performs an inspection check, and
a re-check is done by the worker at the next step. This promotes quality
and accuracy in the completion of your order.
-
Do you have a quality standard for the material that you sell?
Our answer:
Yes. Most businesses you ask this question of will probably not know what
you are talking about. However, if you think about it, the quality of the wrap
is what you are buying.
We have a high standard of what we will sell, and what we will reject –
even if we have to throw it away (which we have done several times in the past).
We have rejected entire shipments from factories because the material was not up to
our standards. Even though we are working with the best factories for drum
wrap, still, once in awhile, products are sent to us that we reject.
Most people do not understand that all sheets of wrap are not created
equal. We understand that human error is a part of the manufacturing
process. But, because we buy in large quantities and work closely with
four different drum wrap manufacturers, this makes returning wrap material
easier – delivering a higher quality product to you. Not only
are all sheets not created the same, but sometimes different lots/batches
are not the same. Because we have been carefully examining wrap for
many years, we are more selective about what we accept. This benefits
our customers in getting a higher quality wrap.
We have a reputation with the factories we deal with of being very
"picky" about quality. In the past, a factory representative
told us, "We have made the material, but I know you will just send it
back" (meaning – it's not up to your standards). Keep in
mind that this was a batch made specifically for Jammin Sam.
And of course, we waited for the next batch of material, even though we
were completely out of it. On one occasion, we waited ten months to
get a quality batch of material that we were out of. We do not
like to be out of stock on anything, but we will not sell sub-standard
materials. When it goes out of here under our name, we want nothing but
your satisfaction when you receive our wrap and place it on your drums.
Sadly, some of our competitors just pass to you whatever they get, without
much of a quality check. So, asking, "Do you have a quality
standard?", is a very important question is ask.
-
Do your metal drum wraps (plastic that resembles meal) have any special properties?
Our answer:
Yes. Our metal drum materials are a multi-layered product made in the United
States. They are made to our specifications to produce a drum wrap that has
a professional grade thickness of 35 mil.
Also, on top of the material is a peal-off-protective-film for added protection
while you're applying the wrap to the drum shell. The bottom line for our metals
(sometimes called hammered metal) is that we deliver a high grade vinyl that fights
color fading, has a deeper look, richer color, has increased durability and lasts
longer.
