Sam – The 60’s Black Oyster re-wrap went very well. I had the time to properly prepare the shells and review the website video and all the instructions. The instructions are very well-written and answered all the questions I had formed in my mind before reading them.
The kit is a late-seventies Pearl wood fiberglass kit, sizes 12, 13, 16, 22. I usually use only one of the mounted toms, but re-wrapped them all to keep a complete kit. On the dates I use the floor tom as a kick, it’s 12, 13, 16. I know some Pearl purists might frown on using this wrap on a Pearl kit, but I love it. I’m a lifelong Ringo/Ludwig Black Oyster fanatic, the drums needed a re-wrap, and I’m old enough to have seen that wrap on Ed Sullivan – so there!
I’ve been playing since 1964, through Woodstock-era, 70’s blues, glam, 80’s new wave & punk, 90’s alt-country, 2000’s emo and now I’m into jazz and big band. I’ve played musical comedy and circus. Drums have been my passion, and never more than right now.
I recently found a great old 1961 Ludwig 20″ kick and have been building an orphan kit around that. As you know, Sam, I’ve ordered another batch of BOP for this new project. I have a gig in four days, and I know I can have it all done by then. I never was interested in drum projects before, but now that I’ve found your wraps and hardware, I’m looking for a Slingerland set that I can re-do in your Vintage White Pearl. Will the fun ever end? I hope not!
I want to thank you, Sam, for your exceptional customer service and for taking your time to help me on the phone. I recommend you to everyone!
