In the Ludwig Drum Companies’ 1957 catalog, the company changed from a large random pattern pearl (shown below) to a directional pattern (pictured above), which became a very popular (actually manufactured with a very light blue tint – what the term “marine” refers to). We are proud to bring back this special vintage finish which is now available from us in an easy to use custom kit.
White pearl finishes have been very popular for a long time. To our knowledge, white pearl wrap first appeared in Ludwig’s 1937 catalog, which other drum companies later made available (Slingerland, Gretsch, etc.). The product was greatly refined in the 1950s, and from then on became extremely popular, especially on Slingerland and Gretsch drums, and is still very popular today.
About 1980, a smaller pattern white pearl became popular, which is still sold today. Our vintage white pearl is a larger pattern pearl, that resembles the vintage pattern of the 1950s thru the 1970s, and is extremely popular with our customers.
Working with the original US manufacturer that supplied the drum companies, we have both of these wraps made 30 mil (30/1000) thick which results in a more durable and longer lasting finish (other wraps sold today are usually between 20-26 mil.). Also, Jammin Sam sends both finishes with a clear, peel-off protective top to protect them during application.
We are proud to offer these old friends, which to our knowledge, are only available through us. If you would like for us to create a custom kit of our vintage white or marine pearl wraps (the best available), just give us a call.
